‘No money to support you’ Magoha warns VCs of setting up new varsities

Education CS Prof George Magoha has on Monday morning suspended establishment of new public universities due to duplication of courses.

Speaking at the Higher Education conference at Radisson Blue, Upper Hill, Prof Magoha revealed that there is a surge in setting up new varsity campuses.

“We can’t establish new universities that will only duplicate courses offered in existing ones. In one month I have received 30 requests for the establishment of new universities,” said Prof Magoha.

Magoha said that his ministry can not afford funding new higher learning institution but is focusing on strengthening the ones already existing.

The current universities are too many and not sustainable according to Magoha.

The no nonsense CS also asked public universities to right-size staff by firing the extra lecturers hired at the peak of the parallel degree programmes.
