Deadly Russian Plane Crash: How it Happened

Fresh details have emerged on the ill-fated Russian plane which made an emergency landing after flying only 28 minutes.

The plane which was from Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow was bound for the Norther Russian city of Murmansk when its crew detected an emergency situation.

The SU1492 plane took off from Sheremetyevo airport at 17:50 pm with some 78 souls aboard. Out of these were five crew members.

After the emergency alert, the plane’s pilots are said to have alerted Sheremetyevo airport of their return, but lost radio contact immediately after giving the signal.

The plane would later make an emergency landing after a second attempt at landing at the airport at 18:30 pm local time.

The aircraft would bounce off the runway and burst into a ball of flames, driving the airport emergency crew into action.

While on the runway, the plane made another sharp turn, and came near other planes which were gearing up for take-off.

Fire fighters rushed to the scene after two minutes when passengers were leaving the burning wreck through emergency exits at the front of the plane.

While the fire was extinguished after one hour, the evacuation process took approximately 55 seconds.

40 passengers and a crew member died in the accident, with several other passengers getting admitted with smoke inhalation complications.

Most of those injured were admitted into Intensive Care Units.
