A Form 3 girl along with an unidentified woman were on Sunday arrested after they were caught planning to procure an abortion in Bomet Township area.
According to the area Chief Reuben Ngetich, the 18-year-old girl from a school in Nakuru County had traveled to Bomet County to have her 6-month pregnancy terminated by the woman who is alleged to be an expert.
“We ambushed them in one of the home at Motigo village in Bomet and found that the girl has already paid Ksh.2,000 for the service, she was still having a pending Ksh.500 in order for the services to be rendered,” the chief is quoted by Citizen.
The girl was taken for examination at Longisa County Referral Hospital then booked at Bomet Police Station as police conclude investigations.
Article 26(4) on the Right to Life states: “Abortion is not permitted unless, in the opinion of a trained health professional, there is need for emergency treatment, or the life or health of the mother is in danger, or if permitted by any other written law.”
Anyone found guilty of the abortion is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years.
Still in Bomet, a 19-year old girl has stabbed her boyfriend (same age) to death in Bomet county after quarreling over the man’s cash.
Bomet Central Police boss Geoffrey Walumbe said the two lovers quarreled before the woman, 19, picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the man.
Neighboursadded that the two fought over some money the man had allegedly earned from his manual labour work.
The deceased succumbed while being rushed to Longisa County Referral Hospital.
The suspect has since surrendered herself to the police and the murder weapon has also been retrieved.
