‘Alfred Mutua will face citizens’ arrest if EACC does not act’

Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama  has threatened to organize a citizens’ arrest of Governor Alfred Mutua if EACC does not take any action against the alleged rampant graft in the county.

The severe critic of Mutua accused the governor of “massive corruption” by allegedly allocating funds towards many projects but with “nothing to show on the ground.”

He further stated that he was in possession of evidence that he was willing to submit to the EACC as well as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to aid in “bringing to book” Governor Mutua over the corruption claims.

This is not the first time these two have crushed in recent months.

Muthama has been accusing Mutua of impotently running the county affairs.

Mutua, on the other hand, accuses Muthama of being jealous and sabotaging him in running the county.

Their rivalry forced Muthama not to contest for any seat in the August 8, 2017, general election. 

Muthama claimed he could not contest for any seat so long as Mutua was on the ballot.

In August 2016, Mutua and Muthama’s rivalry went a notch higher when the two clashed in front of thousands of mourners at a funeral in Machakos.

Governor Mutua uncle’s burial ceremony, John Mbithi turned a political ground when Mutua and Muthama mercilessly criticized each other in front of mourners.

In January this year, Muthama vowed to wrestle Kalonzo Musyoka’s political opponents.

He specifically picked war with Governors Mutua, Charity Ngilu and Kivutha Kibwana after they hit out at Musyoka.

The former legislator went ahead to organize a mega political meeting in his Komarock farm to chart political way forward for the region.

The outspoken ex-legislator also urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to bring in Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Ford-Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and their Amani National Congress (ANC) party counterpart Musalia Mudavadi on his unity pact with Raila Odinga.
