Why rapper Jimwat is an inspiration to young artistes

Life is all about conquering the odds and coming out stronger and wiser and when life gives you a lemon, make a lemonade.

Celebrated rapper James Wathigo popularly know as Jimwat is a living example after he picked all the pieces and started all over again.

The Kumbe in under 18 hit maker rocked the airwaves and captured the hearts of many since back in the day, his has been a journey with ups and downs in the industry.

Under 18 was his biggest hit featuring Meg C which went on to receive nationwide acclaim.

Born in 1985, Jimwat was brought up in Kabete, Nairobi  where he attended Musa Gitau Primary School and Chinga High School in Nyeri County. With a knack for technology, he took a computer course during which he studied graphic design.

His love for music started back when he was in class seven where he would perform for his schoolmates. This music passion had him join Calif records while he was in his final year of high school.

Here, he recorded his first song Sema Nami Sweetie which was released when he was done with school.

This set the platform for his music career. He went on to release the song Paulina and got into several collaborations wih the likes of Juakali and Gabu.

Although he had a promising future, Jimwat threw his life and a glamorous music career to the gutters after getting consumed by drug addiction that almost cost him his dear life.

Thanks to the help of well-wishers and fellow musicians, Jimwat got back to his feet, but had to stay at a local rehab for some time.

On recovery, the rapper released a couple of songs including a collabo with Das Walanguzi before disappearing once again from the showbiz scene.

Well, unlike his counterparts in Tanzania who go back to the vice just days after detox, Jimwat has held on to his new sober life and even opened up a foundation to help those struggling with drug abuse.

Jimwat is now fully concentrating in his music career.
