What should be the happiest time of your life can turn sour really fast when your friends start dropping off because you are pregnant. Even though you want to share with your loved ones the physical and mental changes your body is undergoing as it preps for a baby, your girls may feel your inability to drink and party and do things like you used to do has turned you into a bit of a bore. There are probably few things worse than feeling this isolation during such a life-altering moment.

If this sounds like you, you aren’t alone. Pregnant mother and entrepreneur Amber Rose took to IG stories to vent about feeling abandoned by her friends while she’s pregnant. Rose announced she was expecting her second child with boyfriend Alexander Edwards in early April. But now it seems her happiness has become a bit strained. She wrote in now deleted IG posts. Unfortunately, the feelings Amber is experiencing is common among moms-to-be.

“When a baby disrupts the friendship as you know it, it can feel like the pregnant friend compromised everything without your consent. Feelings of abandonment, anger, rejection, and betrayal are normal in this situation,” Lisa Brateman, a relationship therapist, told Cosmopolitan. While it can be frustrating to lose besties at this stage of life, it doesn’t have to be the end. Lean into the other moms in your friend group who can advise you and give you company during this time.

There are also countless blogs and meet up groups dedicated to mommyhood and new mama life. Even though you may feel abandoned now, just remember the pendulum swings back, because, in soon time, your baby will be the priority and their needs as friends will come last. True friendship ebbs and flows but comes back to the center.
