Children over 3 yrs to pay for SGR as new rules spark outrage – details

Children above three years will be required to pay full fare before traveling on SGR from 1st June 2019.

In a notice released on May 3, Kenya Railways said that the minors will be required to indicate the parents or guardians national Identity Card or Passport number before being allowed to book for the seat and upon travelling alone they will produce the copy of parents ID.

Children aged 3-11 years have been paying sh.1,500 for first class tickets and sh.500 for economy class compared to sh.3, 000 and sh.1, 000 by adults respectively.

The management has also extended advance booking from 30 to 60 days.

According to the public notice the changes are meant to improve services on SGR.

Passengers will be allowed to carry 2 pieces of luggage of maximum length and height of 1.6 meters with a total weight not more than 30 kilograms.
