Guardiola Confirms Major Absence For Man City In Crucial Leicester Clash

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola ruled playmaker Kevin De Bruyne out of Monday’s Premier League clash with Leicester.

Belgium international De Bruyne suffered a suspected muscle injury in City’s win over Tottenham last weekend and was substituted in the first half.

Guardiola said: “I don’t know when he will be fit. Next Monday he is not available.”

Fernandinho is also a doubt for the match, with the Spaniard adding: “I don’t know. I didn’t speak with the doctors.”

Manchester City go into the weekend one point ahead of second-placed Liverpool, who travel to Newcastle on Saturday.

But Guardiola is ignoring his rivals and said: “What we have to do is play Leicester. I am really impressed with them in their last games.

“All we can do is focus on that. The players know it is an incredible task but it is a final for us.”

The City boss also hailed the work done by Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers in such a short space of time.

Rodgers left Scottish champions Celtic for Leicester in February.

“Brendan has shown his incredible qualities as a manager,” Guardiola said.

“In two months they already play the way he wants them to play.”

Guardiola feels that both Rodgers and Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez – both former Liverpool managers – will be aiming to win against the top two sides.

Newcastle host title challengers Liverpool on Monday.

“It’s the same. Brendan and Rafa were in Liverpool but they’ll want to win,” the Spaniard added.

“I cannot imagine them not wanting to win the games. I cannot imagine Leicester’s players will come here for a holiday. They are going to try to make a good game.”
