This was after police confiscated a motorbike belonging to a KDF officer based in Diani after the bike’s operator fled on seeing police.

KDF officer Sgt Suleiman Hamisi Banda was to later storm Diani Police station where the officers had stormed the bike.

It was after Banda was arrested as he tried to fight the police manning the station that a lorry with at least 12 KDF officers snaked its way into Diani Police station and headed straight to the cells.

The heavily armed KDF officers would later break into the cells and release their detained colleague, but not before giving the police a stern warning.

They would later unlock the confiscated motorbike and bundle it into the lorry before making their way back.

April 10th, a Langata-based KDF officer was arrested for assaulting a traffic police officer in Kitengela and locked in at Langata Police station.

Irate KDF officers would later storm the police station and secure his release, setting a dangerous trend in the law and order circles.

β€œThe soldiers most probably had been drinking and they did not appreciate what our officers were trying to do. As a result, there was a scuffle, but we handed them over to the military which will deal with them in their own way,” Nairobi Regional Police Commander, Philip Ndolo said at the time.

The new Inspector General of Police, Hillary Mutyambai has avoided the topic, appearing to concentrate on a familiarization exercise that has seen him visit the GSU, Recce and Administration Police unit headquarters in the country.
