Expect an inhospitable homecoming! Jamie Carragher puts Suarez on notice

Luis Suarez forgot himself as he scored the first goal for his team Barcelona and celebrated wildly as he had scored against a real enemy without minding that it was against a hand that once fed him.

He had fore-warned the team that he would put aside friendship when the two sides meet and true to his word he went wild and unfriendly on them.

The attacker has been put on notice not expect a warm reception when he returns to Anfield next week for the second leg of the Champion League at Anfield, warns Jamie Carragher.

The Uruguayan wound up Liverpool fans by celebrating after opening the scoring for Barcelona against his former side on Wednesday night.

And he further antagonised his former supporters by clashing with Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson during the first leg.

His old team-mate Carragher believes his antics could count against him when he returns to Merseyside for the first time since leaving five years ago on Tuesday.

‘I don’t think it will be as warm as he would have hoped,’ Carragher told Viasport.

‘He was Luis Suarez. You love him when he is in your team and you hate him when he plays for the opposition.

‘It was the first time he was in the opposition and I don’t think Liverpool fans will have liked him.

‘He plays on the edge, very street-wise. A great first goal for him but I don’t think it will be the hero homecoming he will be hoping for.’

Suarez achieved cult-like status during his four-and-half year spell at Liverpool.

He scored 82 goals in 133 appearances and almost dragged them to the Premier League title in 2014.
