600 Club: Lionel Messi equals Ronaldo goalscoring record

Lionel Messi went rampage against Liverpool when his side Barcelona faced the England side as they led the first leg with a 3-0 win against the visiting Reds which puts them safely ahead of their second leg clash at Anfield.

It was a double victory for the Argentine who has been fighting to break records with former Real Marid and Portugal star who hit his 600 goals in his career while playing for a club.

With his brace against Liverpool on Wednesday night, FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s tally of 600 club goals but the Argentine needed three years and 118 games less.

Messi netted his side’s second and third goal against the Reds to give his team a comfortable 3-0 first-leg advantage in the UEFA Champions League semi-final.

The 31-year-old has now scored 12 goals in this season’s Champions League and 48 times in all competitions, while assisting another 22.

On the exact same day, fourteen years after scoring his first senior goal for the Catalan giants, he netted the 600th goal of his club career to equal Ronaldo’s tally just four days after the Portuguese reached the impressive milestone.

Ronaldo had scored his 600th club career goal in Juventus’ 1-1 draw with Inter Milan on Saturday.

While Messi has scored all his goals for FC Barcelona, Ronaldo netted 450 for Real Madrid, 118 for Manchester United, 27 for Juventus and 5 for Sporting.

The Blaugrana captain, however, needed just 684 games to hit the 600-goal record, while Ronaldo scored his 600th in his 800th club game meaning Messi reached the milestone in 118 less than his longstanding rival.

As a consequence, Messi averages 0.88 goals per game, while Ronaldo scores at a rate of 0.75 strikes per match.
