Machakos County set to honor Mike Sonko’s late dad

Machakos County Assembly has passed a motion to rename Mua-Kaloleni road in honour of Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko’s late father Gideon Kioko Kivanguli.

The road in Governor Alfred Mutua-led County will now be renamed to Kivanguli Road.

The move comes three years after Mzee Kivanguli passed on in September 6, 2015 at Nairobi Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

In his condolence message, President Uhuru Kenyatta termed Mzee Kivanguli a humble, kind, generous and courageous elder.

Over the years, Governor Sonko has marked his late father’s anniversary by treating locals with charity events.

Last year, during the third anniversary of Kivanguli’s death, Sonko offered residents a two-day free medical camp at Kathiani Primary School, where locals sought medical services free of charge.

The event saw many locals suffering from various chronicle diseases attended to.

“I really value human life. When my late father was alive, he used to talk a lot about the importance of good health and education. Therefore, by setting up this free medical camp is a dedication to our late father,” the governor said during last year’s anniversary.

Sonko has often, publicly, praised his late father terming him a generous, kind and wise leader.

“We remember you as a wonderful gift from God, our pillar of strength. We deeply cherish your memories of love, dedication, kindness, wisdom and generosity which will remain a guiding light to us,” Sonko eulogized his father last year in a Facebook post.

“Although physically gone, you have always been a thought away from us.May the Almighty rest your soul in eternal peace,” he added.
