COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has reiterated that President Uhuru Kenyatta is too young and will be going nowhere after the 2022 elections.

Speaking at Uhuru Park during the Labor day celebrations on Wednesday, Atwoli said that there was a need to change the constitution to create an all-inclusive government.

This is not the first time that Atwoli has said the President is too young. He started the conversation during Labor day celebrations in 2018.

“If we don’t amend this Constitution to accommodate all Kenyans, where will President Uhuru Kenyatta go after 2022, yet he is a young man? Ataenda kusumbua watu wengine.”

“As a workers’ federation, we don’t want sideshows. Let us amend the Constitution, tubadilishe katiba, tulete Bomas draft. Kitu kinacholeta shida duniani ni mambo ya watu kuachwa nje.”

During a Women’s fundraiser in Lamu last month, Atwoli said that a constitution is coming and will create positions for people like Joho but Ruto will not be on the ballot in 2022.

The veteran trade unionist is slowly becoming the face of the referendum calls. It is believed that a referendum was part of the agreements between President Kenyatta and Raila Odinga during last year’s handshake.

Atwoli has also bashed the Tanga Tanga movement, a team that is associated with Ruto.

On Wednesday, only politicians opposing Ruto were allowed to speak at the Labor celebrations. Atwoli turned the event into a NASA affair.
