The Rwanda Investigation Bureau has detained Nsabimana Callixte a.k.a Sankara who in July 2018 declared the formation of the rebel movement, National Liberation Movement(NLM) to topple President Paul Kagame and took a wave of attacks in Rwanda.
The government on Tuesday announced that Sankara is in custody pending prosecution for serious offenses related to national security.
Nsabimana has been wanted over several offenses committed on Rwandan territory.
These include Formation of an irregular armed group; Complicity in committing terrorist acts; Conspiracy and incitement to commit terrorist acts; Taking persons hostage; Murder; and Looting.
Nsabimana’s case file will be submitted to the National Public Prosecution Authority in accordance with Rwandan criminal procedure law.
It is yet to be established how Sankara was arrested.
Reports indicated that Sankara was picked from Mayote between Mozambique and Madagascar where he was betrayed by a close friend.
