Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka might have decided to quit active politics. This is after making a formal application for retirement benefits that the state usually gives retired vice presidents.

As a former vice president, Kalonzo is entitled to a grand sum of 8.64 million shillings, 702,000 shillings every month, and a fuel allowance of Sh. 108,000 each month for life.

In 2018, Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai adviced Wipe Kalonzo to quit politics. Mbai observed that Kalonzo was politically defeated and no longer had any influence in the country.

“Kalonzo Musyoka should stop lying to himself and accept the fact that he no longer appeals politically,” Mbai said. Ukambani needs fresh people and new political ideas and with the likes of governor Ngilu and Kibwana likely to push the Kamba agenda moving forward.

If this is anything to go by, then it is the taxpayers that will shoulder the weight of that burden, just to make the life of political failure and legendary turncoat better.

Kalonzo Musyoka betrayed Kenyans in 2007 when he decided to join Mwai Kibaki’s illegitimate government. Therefore, even the pension he is now entitled to was earned illegally, in bloodshed and betrayal. He also betrayed Kenyans in 2017 when he failed to turn up for the inauguration of the People’s President – a hallmark protest electoral injustice in the country.

Kalonzo, who was an MP for Mwingi North constituency several terms, is currently surviving on a whopping 200,000-shilling monthly pension payments. While he gets that, he also sells party tickets at a very expensive price in the name of party registration for aspiring politicians.

That he has finally made a formal application for retirement as a former vice president implies that he is ready to leave mainstream politics.
