But in a dramatic change of events, the politician was charged with
disobedience of statutory duty. The prosecution claims that the politician held the anti-social media demos in July 2018 without notifying the police.

“David Lule, Katongole Julius, Nyanzi Fred Ssentamu, Sebufu Edward, Robert Kyagulanyi and others still at large on July 11, 2018 at City Square Kampala road in Kampala District disobeyed sections 5 and 10 of the Public Order Managemnet Act 2013 by holding a public meeting without giving notice to any authorised officer, holding a public meeting a public meeting without adhering to the required criteria and refusing to coordinate and cooperate with police with police to ensure that all participants are unarmed and peaceful,” reads part of the charge sheet.

Bobi Wine led Ugandans in opposing the social media tax, which wanted Ugandans to pay  Shs 200 excise duty for use of Over the Top (OTT) services.

Some people have questioned the timing of the charges, coming at a time when Wine had been under house arrest last week.

The politician has also complained that more than 124 of his shows have been cancelled by the police.

The court will decide on Thursday, whether to grant him bail. He will spent that time at Luzira Prison.
