Kisii man who strangled wife to death finally nabbed while drowning himself

A Kisii man who unsuccessfully tried to drown himself in Kigati river after he had strangled his wife dead has been arrested.

The suspect was retrieved from the river by night guards while in critical condition.

He was arrested Monday morning following the incident that took place Sunday night.

“The man came home drunk at around 10 pm. When the wife asked him where he was from, fighting ensued,” said a neighbour.

The area chief said preliminary investigations indicate Geoffrey strangled Dorcah to death. Vomit was found on the scene of crime.

The suspect then laid the deceased body on the bed and covered her in blankets after committing the crime.

“After committing the crime, he ran to Kigati river with intent to commit suicide. But guards from a nearby company who were on patrol rescued him before he could drown,” said the chief.

He was handed to police officers from Kisii police station on Monday morning.

Elsewhere, Embakasi residents narrated how James Wambugu Wanyiri, 34, stabbed his wife Grace Kangure more than 20 times after a domestic altercation.

He locked all entrances, making it impossible for neighbours to heed to the woman’s calls for rescue in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

“We heard her crying and calling for help, screaming that her husband was killing her,” said a neighbor.

They described the suspect as a quiet man who kept his own company and never liked talking to anyone.

According to the neighbours, the wife worked outside Nairobi and only visited during weekends.

“She had been stabbed on her chest, neck, thighs and blood was flowing from the wounds,” said a neighbor.
