Blundering Kalonzo spill the beans on His ‘Coalition’ with Gideon Moi

Blundering Kalonzo accidentally reveals he is not in talks with Gideon Moi over 2022

For a long period of time, most Kenyans had assumed that there were serious ongoing negotiations between major political players in the country with Gideon, the son of former president Daniel Arap Moi.

In the scheme of things, Kalonzo Musyoka would be one of the major political players. But on Saturday, during an unguarded moment, Kalonzo let the cat out of the bag. There is nothing of that sort!

When he rose to speak at Jonathan’s funeral in Kabarak, Nakuru County, Kalanzo said that he learned of Jonathan Moi’s death from social media. Wanting to confirm from Gideon Moi, he realized he didn’t have his phone number. He had to get it from a personal aide of Gideon.

That can only mean one thing; Kalonzo and Gideon are not in regular communication. So how was Kalonzo’s recent trip to shake hands with Mzee Moi organized? Was it a one-off arrangement?

If anything important was discussed, was a follow up not necessary? Kalonzo’s inadvertent admission also raises questions about relations between Gideon Moi and the other politicians who have been trooping to Kabarak in what many assumed to be a political pilgrimage.

Have these trips been about photo opportunities, sumptuous lunches and pocket money? Gideon had indicated in the past that his main focus was not on who will be president after the 2022 polls but that he (Moi) was working with leaders across the political divide under the Building Bridges initiative in a bid to improve the lives of Kenyans by supporting the Big Four Agenda.

“We will continue working with friends so that we can change the lives of our people. If God allows us to form the next government, we want to assure Kenyans that we will move the country to the next level,” said Gideon.

Tiaty MP who is also a close ally of Gideon, William Kamket, had also been quoted saying that the 2022 winning formula was an alliance that comprised Wiper, ANC and Kanu.

“The formula that was used by Cord in 2013 and NASA in 2017 did not work. We want to add to that matrix Kanu and votes from central Kenya to form the next government. This team will win with a landslide without too much effort,” said Mr. Kamket in the past.
