All That Ole Gunnar said About De Gea After Barcelona & Chelsea Errors

A defeat on Sunday for Man United would have ended their top four hopes.

In the end a 1-1 with Chelsea has left Man United’s Champions League ambitions on life-support.

Man United shot themselves in the foot after starting the Chelsea match in fine form.

Marcos Alonso had gambled on De Gea’s handling error, and the Spaniard capitalised on the mistake to score.

Dark clouds are hovering over David De Gea.

It’s been a terrible few weeks for the goalie, who was also at fault as Man United crashed out the Champions League against Barcelona.

Why has De Gea’s form tanked against Barcelona and Chelsea?

How does this tie into the fact the keeper’s future at Old Trafford remains in doubt?

After the Chelsea match Ole Gunnar Solskjaer discussed De Gea’s mistakes. The Norwegian defended his keeper, saying:

When you’re goalkeeper or a striker you’re always in the spotlight.

With David, he’s been in the spotlight for right reasons for so long and now he’s going through a period where he feels he could have done better.

Whenever I didn’t score my confidence dropped if I missed chances and David knows he could have done better with the goal, there’s no reason hiding that.

But there’s no chance any of us will point fingers because he’s saved us so many times. I’ll speak to David, as I’ve done when he’s played well, and he’s not the reason we’re sixth.

I don’t have any worries about him, because he’s a strong character.
