Ajax teenager defender Matthijs de Ligt predicts his own transfer move

Ajax teenager Matthijs de Ligt remains one of the most sought players in the football world in Europe at the moment for the sole reason and purpose of leading his side to the semi-final.

His name came to the limelight when his side edged out UEFA Champions Real Madrid out of the trophy from the group of 16 and as though that was not enough, he led the side to crash Italian Champions Juventus led by Ronaldo out of the race.

Now, he sees himself as a target that is likely going to follow the steps of his fellow teammate De Jong but he does not a thing he is going to be as expensive as he makes up his mind on moving out which is dependent on the club.

Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt says he doesn’t think he’ll cost as much as teammate Frenkie de Jong were he to move this summer, as is expected.

The 19-year-old centre-back will line up in Tuesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg against Tottenham Hotspur as one of the most in-demand defenders on the planet, with Barcelona believed to be leading the race for his signature.

Barca has already secured the arrival of De Jong for next season, with the midfielder completing his £65million move in January ahead of completing the rest of the campaign at Ajax.

It has been suggested that De Ligt could command a similar fee or perhaps even one approaching the £75million Liverpool paid for his fellow Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk, but the man himself disagrees.

“Will I be more expensive than Frenkie? I don’t think so, no,” he told Ajax’s social networks. “Normally teams spend more money on midfield players than defenders, he said.

“I really don’t know. “It’s up to Ajax – it’s not something that I decide. We shall see.”

De Ligt added that he still hasn’t decided whether or not he’ll leave this summer, with all the focus on his side’s upcoming clash with Spurs.

“I haven’t made a decision yet, so I don’t know [if I will stay],” he said.

“I am only focused on the last games of the season for now.”We still have a lot to play for so let’s finish this season in a good way.”
