Sofapaka fails to cement second place with slum boy’s draw

Second-placed Sofapaka failed to mount more pressure on league leaders Gor Mahia when they hosted slum boys, Mathare United at their home ground, Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The host side was the first to get a goal from Kasumba in the first minutes of the second half.

Although Kasumba got the side a second goal it was not sure enough for the ‘Batoto ba Mungu’ as the visiting side was teasing and threatening enough to get two goals to brag about from an away ground.

Mathare United’s Cliff Nyakeya restored parity after a neat interchange with Oduor after freeing him in the area where he beat Ndikumana with a low shot scoring for the visiting side.

Nyakeya nailed in his second goal of the day after connecting to a cutback from Oduor putting it past the Sofapaka goalkeeper.

The last three meetings between these two sides have yielded 14 goals, nine of those having been scored at Machakos, Kenyatta stadium.

History remains for the Mathare manager Francis Kimanzi who has never beaten Sofapaka while John Baraza is in charge as head coach.
