Kenya’s high expectations of a credit facility from the Chinese Exim Bank to fund the railway project whose construction was to commence in August, were dampened when no such deal was communicated.

The Government has made a surprise admission that the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) will actually end in Naivasha from where the old railway will continue to be used to Kisumu.

According to Transport CS James Macharia, the SGR will be joined to the old meter gauge railway in Naivasha to speed up the resumption of transport services to kisumu.

He revealed this during an interview with Kenya’s national broadcaster KBC on Friday.

ODM Leader and AU High Representative for Infrastructure Raila Odinga on Thursday morning excited his followers after posting an update on his trip to China where he accompanied President Uhuru Kenyatta to secure an additional Sh 368 billion loan to complete the SGR project.

The excitement is since gone with the wind and Kenyans can’t help but express their disappointment on the AU envoy Raila Odinga after failure to secure the China loan with many calling him bad luck.
