Why Liverpool Striker Firminho Was Not Featuring Vs Huddersfield

Liverpool can leapfrog Manchester City for at least 48 hours should they beat Huddersfield at Anfield tonight.

Daniel Sturridge has been preferred to the Brazilian alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

But manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Firmino experienced a slight injury worry in training.

The Reds have Barcelona in the last four of the Champions League on Wednesday night as they bid for a second straight final appearance.

With Huddersfield already relegated Klopp has clearly decided that allowing Firmino sufficient rest will be beneficial in the run in.

“Actually, yesterday after training he mentioned a little muscle issue,” said the German.

“We assess it obviously. It’s not a big thing but was enough to leave him out today, that’s all.”

Liverpool are still yet to lose at home this season which follows on from their unbeaten home record last term.

Except for Firmino’s absence Liverpool starting XI is as you would expect.

Dejan Lovren partners Virgil van Dijk in the centre of defence in front of Alisson.

Skipper Jordan Henderson plays in midfield alongside Giorginio Wijnaldum and Naby Keita.

Klopp’s side were made to work for their win over Cardiff last weekend and a similar evening is expected on Merseyside.

City head to Turf Moor to take on Burnley on Sunday which allows Liverpool to apply the pressure on their title rivals.
