After all the development anticipation in Nyanza as a result of the Standard Gauge Railway, it has been reported that the government has halted the plan to extend SGR construction to end in Kisumu.
This is as the government has failed to secure Ksh. 386 b from China for Kisumu old line to be connected to SGR thus the construction will end in Naivasha.

while speaking in Nyakach before China trip, Raila revealed they were optimistic the Chinese Government would give Kenya the over 300 billion loan to extend the SGR from Naivasha to Uganda.
“I will be part of the delegation that will accompany the President to the Asian country next week. The new SGR line will extend from Naivasha to Narok, Bomet, Sondu and finally Kisumu,” Raila said.
He said the new move is meant to ease trade within the East Africa region.
Raila told the crowd that they will also revive the Kisumu inland port that slumped following the collapse of the railway transport.
Too bad! Kisumu will have to nurse the huge disappointment.
