Why Matiang’i now wants all Counties to Benchmark in Kitui

Kitui County Governor Charity Ngilu’s development record has got the attention of Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i.

Matiang’i on Wednesday conducted a tour visit of Ngilu’s textile Industry, which left him with less words to say.

Instead, the Kitui County Texture Centre was promised business by the national government.

“As a national government, we will give a lot of business to Kitui county,” Matiang’i said.

Matiang’i, who was accompanied by his Health counterpart Sicily Kariuki, said the textile factory was an embodiment of a county government keen to improve its people’s livelihood.

He said that Kitui should be the destination for other counties to benchmark and regretted that it was imprudent to import goods that could be made in Kenya.

“There is no point of importing things we can make here. And there is no reason why we should be unwise by supporting other economies instead of our own.”

The national government will also support Kitui’s initiatives on honey and Ndengu value addition, he said.
