I am not a Ruto fan but even if it meant going to Kabimoi to console with Jonathan Moi’s widow, that was the right thing to do rather than just sulk. It seems to me that Ruto has made enemies right up to his backyard.
It makes more sense to visit his family, wife n kids.

Anyway, for millennial slay queens: Jonathan Moi was implicated in the rape and murder of British tourist Julie Ward in 1988. It was a huge story and as a 12-year-old, I followed the story vividly. It’s funny the Kenyan media seems to have selective amnesia saying that the guy was just a rally driver.

Of course, he was and even though a firstborn of the former President, Jonathan never really saw eye to eye with his father. The Moi Children were divided over Moi’s alienation of their mother, the late Lena Moi. All our generation grew up without ever spotting the president’s wife.

Rumour has it that during a certain ceremony hosted by the first president Jomo Kenyatta, Lena was invited to have a dance with Kenyatta. Being a devout Christian she declined the offer which embarrassed Moi. It was the last time the Mois were seen together. She was banished from public life until she died.

Jonathan sympathized with his mother when Moi Divorced her. He was never happy the way Moi treated the mother. Jonathan was a rebel to the Mzee. Due to this, Moi neglected Jonathan and even forced him to relocate to his present land Kabimoi. In fact, Moi’s wife Lena Moi died under the care of Jonathan at his farm in Kabimoi.

Among those who stuck with their father was Gideon Moi, the most visible of the former president’s son. He’s not just Moi’s favourite son unfortunately, he’s Ruto’s number 1 enemy among the Kalenjin kingpins.

Gideon Moi would likely be president if Raila doesn’t succeed in outsmarting Uhuru in the memorandum of understanding between the Moi and Kenyatta dynasties. It’s difficult to see Ruto in the picture. They will relegate him to Kabimoi of Sugoi.
