Khalwale questions government massive borrowing

Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has expressed his concerns following the many loans the government has been taking mostly from the China Republic.

While speaking during an interview in one of the local TV Station Khalwale expressed concern as to why the government is not disclosing the deals made during the China Kenya meetings.

“There is nothing wrong with borrowing. Just about any working economy borrows. However, why is it a challenge in making full disclosure on the contracts in the Kenyan scenario? Why not allow local companies to be the ones implementing the projects?”

In addition, he said, “If the borrowing is noble, why did the President not disclose to Parliament during the State of the Nation address the commitments his government is in? I do not know. Maybe they were going to ‘cut deals’ in China.”

Khalwale’s remarks came days after President Uhuru Kenyatta and AU Leader Raila Odinga went to China where they are attending the
the second Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) forum, a high-level global meeting on infrastructure projects spearheaded by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
