Sonko claims he can’t appoint DG without consulting state house

Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has sensationally claimed that he can’t appoint the deputy governor without consulting the state house top operatives.

“I am Jubilee governor…I have to consult…I have to look for the party leader/President and the DP. Jubilee does not belong to me,” Sonko said.

Governor told the senate committee that his delay in nominating a deputy governor for Nairobi is a non-issue.

The governor accused County senator Johnstone Sakaja of working behind his back as the plots to campaign against him 2022.

” It is true I wanted to be Nairobi governor; it is also true Sakaja wants to be Nairobi governor but he is playing his cards wrong,” Sonko said.

The meeting turned dramatic after the governor kept on visiting the washrooms claiming that he was electrocuted at JKIA washrooms.

The governor further claimed that NASA and Wiper had fronted their candidate for the position of the deputy and this complicated the matrix.

Now members of the County Assembly have criticized the Senate for misusing their powers by summoning Governor Mike Sonko to explain why he has not appointed a deputy governor 15 months after Polycarp Igathe resigned.

Majority Leader Abdi Guyo said that lack of a deputy had not hampered county operations, adding that Mr. Sonko had already nominated four women candidates and all that remained was to table their names in the county assembly.

“The senate is misusing its power by summoning the governor over a minor issue, the operations have not halted and thus there was no need,”Guyo said.
