Just two days ago we were almost walking shirtless because of the heat wave that had taken over, now we are swimming in ditches and potholes. This should not make you fall out of style. Yes, we are saying goodbye to ‘revealing more skin’, it’s now time to cover up but we should cover up fabulously.
It’s important to know what outfit to wear when the cold starts seeping in, however, the weather in Nairobi is unpredictable one minute it’s rainy the next minute the sun pops out, confusing, right? you may decide to wear thigh-high boots in the morning to stay dry and by the time it’s midday you are sweating profusely.
You have to spontaneous just like the Nairobi weather, below are a few tips and tricks on how to stay warm and dry from head to toe.
1.Always have an umbrella handy
First things first, The best way to keep you and your clothes dry is to use an umbrella when the rain pours. It’s wise to choose the small a smaller size so that in case the sun comes up in the afternoon you can just slip it in your handbag.
2.Bring only what’s important
In short, carry light…. just avoid unnecessary items with you especially when you’re commuting. Carrying too many items can get a bit overwhelming considering you have to hold your umbrella, too.
3. Ensure your shoes are water proof
Leave you bright shoes for the sunny days, remember that flood easily builds up when it rains, so wear shoes that you wouldn’t mind getting stained and soaked. Or wear waterproof ones like boots. Also, the floors are extra slippery when wet so wear shoes that are slip-resistant.
If you mind staying with knee or thigh-high throughout the day when the weather changes then you should consider getting ankle boots. They too are trendy and they can practically match any outfit, of cos depending on the design.
4. Wear Dark colors
Mud stains and rainwater is most visible in light colours. Wear something dark to camouflage it.
5. Always carry an extra something
With the kind of rush that’s in Nairobi, you can fall down flat in the streets and trust me you would not like to walk around in the same attire the whole day. You will end up buying new clothes or going back home; so to be on the safe side just carry extra in your bag.
Even if you will not fall, there’s nothing worse than wet, soggy socks and drenched shirts. Remember to keep extra shoes, socks, and clothes in your bag in case any of those get wet
6. Rain-safe fabrics
Cotton, Mul, Silk and Denim are breathable fabrics that will keep you warm and dry. They are extremely lightweight and dry quickly. You should, however, refrain from wearing materials like leather and suede because they are vulnerable in the rain.
Should you really need to use your leather goods, make sure to have them maintained and waterproofed.
