Nairobi county deputy governor’s post has been vacant after Polycarp Igathe resigned in January 2018 citing a strained work relationship with Sonko.

The post has so far attracted many hopeful aspirants who despite handing in their nomination requests, Nairobi county governor Moke Sonko has remained silent over the appointment.

And in a new twist of events, Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has joined the race after he revealed that he’s now interested in the vacant post.

Sakaja has secretly hatched a plot to mobilize Jubilee Party top leaders led by President Uhuru Kenyatta to sweet talk Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and have him nominated for the slot that was left vacant after the surprise resignation of Polycarp Igathe in 2018.

Sakaja has even forced Senate’s Devolution Committee to summon Sonko over the vacant slot. Sonko is scheduled to appear before the committee on Wednesday 23rd, 2019 to be grilled on the issue.

According to sources from Senate, Sakaja wants to be Sonko’s deputy so that he can sponsor an impeachment motion against Sonko to ensure he takes as Nairobi Governor before 2022.

Latest indications show that Sakaja has little chances of defeating Sonko in the 2022 race in case Sonko decides to vie for the seat again.

Last year Sonko nominated controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna as his deputy, but Nairobi City County Assembly MCAs rejected the nomination.
