The issue of churches accepting donations from graft implicated politicians has taken centre stage in Kenya.
Various religious and political leaders have expressed different opinions over the same.
This topic emerged after Deputy President William Ruto was reported to be issuing millions every weekends to church harambees.
The money has been alleged to be proceeds of corruption.
But isn’t DP Ruto a businessman? May be he is donating profits from his enterprises.
The debate has now taken a new twist.
The Elgeyo Marakwet senator Hon Kipchumba Murkomen has stated that the church should consider banning harambees and even block sinners from contributing tithes.
“It will be great to see churches ban all harambees in church. It will be even greater to see them ban sinners from contributing tithes, offerings and harambee donations in church. Maybe then we shall truly say we are in Caanan or better still heaven on earth!” tweeted Murkomen.
Murkomen who was agitated after his boss (DP Ruto) was attacked over his church harambees, now wants even sinners to be barred from making contributions in church.
This is the only way to reach Canaan according to the legislature.
Bishop Timothy Gichere of Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) had confirmed that the church will continue receiving donations from politicians as they (Church) cannot distinguish between “clean” money and money gotten from corruption scandals.
