Manchester United’s 4-0 loss to Everton left them with no more room for error as the hunt for Champions League qualification intensifies. The Red Devils have lost 4 of the last 5 matches they have played in and Ole Gunnar will be fully aware that another loss will be the final nail in their top four coffin.

There’s one small problem though, a win against Manchester United would hand Liverpool the initiative in the Premier League title race, a scenario any self-respecting Manchester United fan would not want to happen. Liverpool are Manchester United’s eternal rival and are the second most successful English team with 18 league titles, Manchester United top that list with 20 top flight title wins.

The players pride must have been hurt by that embarrassing result away at Everton and it’s only natural that they will want to react, especially at home against their City rivals who will no doubt be taunting them throughout the duration of the match. Besides, no one wants to lose a Derby match at home!

So what will Manchester United do? Common sense dictates that they treat the derby with the respect it deserves and match Pep Guardiola’s men on the pitch but with their record at stake, that is not guaranteed. It is a dilemma that has been haunting the Manchester United fanbase for the past few weeks, a loss means Europa League next season while a win means that their eternal rivals will be back from the dead! Wednesday night will, however, provide us with the answers…
