Kenyan Premier League were at it again this past weekend following a dubious decision that left a bitter taste in the mouths of the affected club.
The trend continued to show during the weekend and it is threatening football in Kenya unless Football Kenya Federation intervenes.
In the match between Gor Mahia and Ulinzi stars, Gor fans and players were angered after Ulinzi were awarded a controversial penalty in the 58th minute of the game to help them level earlier K’Ogalo’s goal.
According to a video that went viral online, the referee together with his assistant gave Ulinzi a penalty for a foul that wasn’t.
This trend has to get a solution soon since many football hooliganism are as a result of poor officiating.
One notable cause of poor officiating includes match-fixing where referees favour some teams over others after receiving bribes.
Football Kenya Federation must ensure that all officials are qualifiied and any case of match-fixing must be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators brought to book to serve as example to others.
