How Nairobi Hospital is fighting to get off with Cholera saga

Last week, Nairobi Hospital, one of the giant health facilities in Nairobi got the attention of many when one of their staff died and about 52 others hospitalized over Cholera outbreak at the facility.

However, the Hospital came out to defend itself, saying that there was no Cholera outbreak at the facility.

Yet again, the Hospital has said seven patients affected by cholera are still admitted at the facility.

A statement dated Saturday, April 20, 2019 said the patients are receiving treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.

“…they are stable for discharge within the next 24 hours,” the statement signed by M.D. Christopher Abeid reads.

The hospital has however assured the public that proper measures have been taken to ensure that the wellbeing of all their patients and staff is paramount.

Together with the Ministry of Health and other relevant Nairobi County agencies, the hospital’s management reiterated that the situation is under control.

This comes a few days after it emerged that the number of staff at The Nairobi Hospital affected by cholera rose to 52.

Cholera is spread by ingesting faecal matter; symptoms include effortless watery diarrhoea and sometimes vomiting.

Below are guidelines from the County Health Department on how to avoid contracting the disease:
1. Use treated water for hand washing, washing vegetables and drinking.
2. To only eat food licensed premises and to avoid suspicions food establishments.
3. To observe general hygiene to minimise infection.
4. Do not eat food from suspicious joints which include all roadside vendors
