He was humble, generous, Kenyans pay homage to Jonathan Moi (JT)

Kenyans on Saturday united in mourning Jonathan Moi, the first born son of former president Daniel arap Moi.

Jonathan, popularly known as JT, which derived from the initials of his names, died in Nakuru following what was described by some sources as an illness that had lasted for sometime.

“I have received the news this morning of the passing away of my friend and brother Jonathan Toroitich Moi with great shock and disbelief,” said President Uhuru Kenyatta .


Uhuru accompanied his statement with a photo from 1980, of him and Jonathan as young men, together with other members of their families.


Deputy President William Ruto also sent his condolences. “Jonathan Toroitich, son of former President Moi, Jonathan made his name as an enthusiastic, competitive and masterful rally driver. He was sociable, affable and loved a good laugh,” he said.

“My family and that of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga send deeply felt condolences to former President Daniel arap Moi following the death of Jonathan,” said ODM leader, Raila Odinga.

“It was with profound shock Tessie and I learnt of the passing on of Jonathan Moi,” said Musalia Mudavadi.


“Jonathan, a down to earth patriot has left a mark in Kenya’s motorsport industry,” National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi said.

“On a weekend of peace and forgiveness God in His wisdom allowed the life of Jonathan Moi to be extinguished. Painful,” former minister Franklin Bett.


Others who sent their condolences include senate speaker, Ken Lusaka, Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui, senator Moses Wetangula, Mps William Chepkut and Chris Wawalwa as well as former governor William Kabogo, among others.
