Former Monaco manager expected back to the touchline after the dramatic ouster

Thierry Henry’s ouster from Monaco as manager was one of the lowest moment in his life but he had the shoulder of his former manager, Arsene Wenger to comfort him. Luckily enough he was able to pick up his pieces and come back to his senses stronger.

He has since recovered from the tragedy and word is that he might be managing a club soon.

Thierry Henry is closing on a return to management with New York Red Bulls.

Just three months after his nightmare stint at Monaco, the former France international is set for another crack at being a head coach, in MLS.

The Red Bulls have endured a dismal start to the season under head coach Chris Armas, with Saturday’s 1-0 loss to New England Revolution seemingly the final straw for the club’s management.

Red Bull head of global soccer Oliver Mintzlaff is ready to pull the trigger and offer the 41-year-old a return to coaching in America with his former club. The Arsenal legend was sacked by Monaco after a nightmare four months in charge of the French side.

Henry’s dismal tenure at the Stade Louis II brought just five wins and left them fighting relegation at the time of his departure in January.

And his methods have been highly criticised, with Aleksandr Golovin recently declaring: “When things weren’t working out during practice he would get nervous and yell a lot. Maybe it was unnecessary.

“He was a very strong player and the only players near his level at Monaco are maybe [Radamel] Falcao and [Cesc] Fabregas. He would try to go out onto the field and show us how to practice and yell.

“Maybe a different manager would say ‘let’s go, get it together’, but he would get nervous right away and run onto the field and start playing and showing us things.

“He would scream ‘try to get the ball away from me’. Players were mostly calm, but maybe they were in a bit of a shock. “You could tell he didn’t fully transition into the role of manager.”

But Henry was a huge favourite with Red Bulls fans during his time as a player with the club and numerous sources claim he is in line to be named manager this week.

NYRB’s latest loss has left them with a record of just five points from their opening seven games this season, leaving them 10th in the Eastern Conference and fighting an uphill battle to reach the playoffs already.

Henry scored 52 goals in 135 games for the New York Red Bulls during a four year period and helped the club to lift the 2013 Supporters’ Shield for best regular season record.
