My friend argued that the problem with Ivy Wangechi’s murder is not his alleged boyfriend’s fury over being neglected but the whole society and this horrific incident should be a wake-up call on how rotten the society is and how it is a high time we include the boy child in conversations rather than making it a man versus woman issue.

The killing of Ivy sparked off a conversation over increasing cases where women are being attacked and some killed by lovers.

Her mother, Winifred Kingori, who fondly referred to her as ‘Ivyline the Medicine woman’, described her daughter as her best friend whose life had been snuffed out too soon.
“Ivy, it is all darkness around me. I do not know where the next step will lead me,” she said.

Her grandmother Beatrice Wangechi, whom Ivy was named after, said while she would bear the loss, she’d forgiven her killer.

Over 300 people attended the funeral service at Mahiga Primary School in Othaya Constituency.

The mourners included her family, friends from Thika where they lived, as well Moi University and Alliance Girls High School staff and students.

Also present were Hon Sabina Chege (Muranga), Hon Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira) and Hon Rahab Mukami (Nyeri), who joined Hon Gichuki Mugambi (Othaya) to bid goodby to Ivy Wangechi.

MOses Kuria had to say this:

“…The brutal murder of Ivy is reprehensible and we condemned it with the strongest terms. We will stand with the family to seek justice for Ivy. At the same time, there is need to support young people to initiate a youth-To-youth dialogue if we are to get to the bottom of the very serious issues facing the youth today and as parents and leaders it is time to listen to our youth and their untold stories. The Moses Kuria Foundation announced a partnership with the student leaders from all universities in Kenya to organise forums for Youth-To-Youth dialogue culminating in a major national conference on the same”

Can a youth-To-youth dialogue solve the solution?
