Deputy President William Ruto was treated as an opposition leader when he landed in Nyeri on Friday.

Ruto was at the African Independent Pentecostal Church of Africa (AIPCA) to celebrate the Holy Week Service. He was joined by a battery of politicians including Governor Mutahi Kahiga and 20 legislators.

But surprisingly, the County Commissioner and the entire County Security team was missing from the function. In fact no single police officer was present to provide security for the Deputy President.

Did Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai instruct the police not to attend the Deputy President’s function? Last week, Mutyambai was on the spot for removing the security detail of politicians aligned to the Deputy President.

It is believed that Mutyambai did not receive Ruto’s blessings when he was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to replace Joseph Boinnet as IG.

Also on the spot is Interior CS Fred Matiang’i and his PS Karanja Kibicho. The County Administration lies under the Interior Ministry and if the County Commissioner did not attend Ruto’s function, then they must have got instructions from the Ministry.

Kibicho is among the people who have been heavily mentioned to be the forces behind the Kieleweke team that is hell bent on ensuring Ruto does not become President.
