Sofapaka snatch late equalizer to spoil Sharks Easter party

Sofapaka come from behind to snatch a point against Kariobangi Sharks

Kariobangi Sharks started the game on a strong footing, looking to overwrite the wretched record that has seen them go on a seven-game winless streak. Sharks dominated play in the opening minutes but failed to muster any meaningful chances as Sofapaka grew into the game seeking to return to the summit of the table.

William Muluya’s charges finally made their possession count at the stroke of the half-hour mark courtesy of a set piece after Oumar Moussa brought down George Abege in the right flank. Duke Abuya took the resultant free kick, delivering an inch-perfect cross that was headed onto the path of George Abege by Geoffrey Shiveka for a simple tap in the far corner of the post.

John Baraza’s boys turned on the pressure in the final 15 minutes and deservedly pulled level in the 88th minute when Eli Asieche whipped in a devilish free-kick that was returned across the face of goal by Willis Obayi for Umaru Kasumba to net his 11th goal of the season and move to just one goal behind leading scorers Allan Wanga and Enosh Ochieng.

The point ensured Sofapaka returned to the summit of the table on 45 points from 24 games level with Bandari while Sharks remain ninth on 32 points from 24 games.
