Governor Mutua Faults Gvt For The Resistance Surrounding The House Levy Tax

Machakos Governor Dr. Alfrred Mutua has weighed in the new government housing levy that has created an uproar among Kenyan citizens.

Mutua has faulted the Uhuru’s government over poor communication and poor timing for the reason why his project won’t work.

The Machakos County boss says the country is facing dire conditions of rising fuel prices, low circulation of money and drought, making the levy appear punitive.

He notes that the structure of the program seems to be focused on the urban areas.

” The country is facing dire conditions of rising fuel prices, low circulation of money & drought, making the levy appear punitive. The structure of the program seems to be focused on the urban areas and I wonder how it will benefit the mwananchi living in a hut in the village“.

His statement comes days after the government the implementation of the new housing levy which will see about 1.5 percent of kenyan salaries cut to cater for it.

However Kenyans took offence with Article 25 of the Act which states that anyone who misappropriates the housing fund will be liable to imprisonment for two years or be made to pay a fine not exceeding Sh10,000 or both.
