Chelsea and Arsenal know who they face in the Europa League semifinals

After making light work of Napoli in the quarterfinals, Arsenal will now face Spanish side Valencia in the Europa League semifinals. The Gunners beat Napoli 1-0 in the second leg to record a 3-0 aggregate score which means that they will play in the Europa League semifinals for the second year running having being eliminated by Atletico Madrid at the same stage last season.

Valencia beat fellow La Liga side Villareal 5-2 on aggregate to set up a date with their former manager Unai Emery in the last four. It will be the first time Unai Emery faces one of his former teams as an Arsenal manager.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will face German side Eintracht Frankfurt in the other semifinal after a 5-3 aggregate win in their quarter-final match against Slavia Prague. Frankfurt qualified on the away goals rule having drawn 4-4 over two legs with Portuguese side Benfica.

The winner of the Europa League earns a direct ticket to next season’s Champions League group stages regardless of the position they finish in the league.
