4 football matches you cannot afford to miss this weekend

Join Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala, and Co. on Saturday.

Caught your breath back after an exhilarating week of Champions League action? Well if you’re having a gander at the footballing calendar, you may well be forgiven from suffering a severe case of deja vu.

Just three days after Tottenham Hotspur helped provide the fireworks at the Etihad and proverbially p*ssed on Manchester City’s parade in their pursuit of the premier European accolade, the Lilywhites venture back up to Eastlands for their Premier League fixture, and their third meeting in 12 days.

If the English top tier ain’t your thang here’s a smorgasbord of continental action to hopefully keep you satisfied over this sizzling Bank Holiday weekend.

Juventus v Fiorentina

Just two points needed from their remaining six games for the Old Lady. It’ll be interesting to see how Massimiliano Allegri’s side bounces back after their midweek Champions League defeat to a brilliant Ajax outfit; will they go the route of Paris Saint-Germain, their respective counterparts in French Ligue 1, who have yet to seal the championship with two defeats and a draw in their last three fixtures.

Borussia Mönchengladbach v RB Leipzig

It’s fifth versus third in the German Bundesliga, as Mönchengladbach welcome Leipzig to North Rhine-Westphalia. Yussef Poulsen and Timo Werner have bagged 29 goals between them for Leipzig this season in a potent partnership, though the former has been suffering from an angina problem following his hattrick against Hertha Berlin. Could a late push for second be on the cards for Leipzig with a victory?

Inter v Roma

It’s back-to-back draws when the Nerazzurri and the Giallorossi have met in the league and a 3-1 win apiece in the games before that. Journeyman Claudio Ranieri will take his Roma side to the San Siro to face a team he managed for just eight months.

A ropy beginning with the Tinkerman after taking over from Eusebio di Francesco has slowly gained a bit more traction, with solid if unspectacular successive wins in their last two fixtures and, like Inter, and now undefeated in three games. Roma – currently in a Europa League spot – can still try and push for a Champions League qualification spot with a win, where they’ll go within three points of their Saturday evening opponents.
