President Uhuru Kenyatta will be forced to clearly come out and explain the directive to deduct 1.5% more on the salaries of Kenyans who are already struggling to cope with the harsh economic environment.

The Federation of Kenyan Employers on Tuesday dismissed the directive to implement the proposed 1.5% levy on salaries starting this month. According to FKE, the housing fund levy remains suspended at least until May 20th, 2019 when the case will be mentioned in court.

“Our attention has been drawn to the public notice published in today’s dailies. The notice by the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works in conjunction with Kenya Revenue Authority has issued a go-ahead on the implementation of the Housing Fund Levy with effect May 9, 2019.

This is contrary to the Court Orders which are still in force,” said FKE Director Ms. Jacqueline Mugo.

Kenyans have however joined into the debating questioning who’s houses are being constructed with the amounts. They have all teamed up to rebuke the government and question its swiftness in implementing such move when the case is still pending at the court f law.

Nelson Havi said through his Twitter account that We (Kenyans) contributed towards the purchase of primary school laptops but none were delivered, we paid for the construction of many stadia but none were constructed. Whose houses are we contributing for, termites? under the #HousingFundLevy hashtag.

The Consumer Federation of Kenya said that they have issued a directive to their lawyers to move to court against the directive, terming it a FRAUD.
