CUBAN DOCTORS: What ATPU Found on Their Driver!

In a highly-guarded secret, only a few priviledged members of the family actually know where the driver of abducted Cuban doctors is being detained.

The driver was arrested on Friday and questioned for about two days in Mandera.

On Sunday, he was to be airlifted to Nairobi for further probing that was to reveal Issack Ibrein Robow (the driver), may have participated in the abduction.

The doctors are on their fifth day in abduction, and details of the police operations progress remain scanty.

Immediately after their abduction on Friday, 12, the Government of Kenya, in a statement, said they were in close communication with Havana.

Mr Ibrein who was driving the two Cuban doctors Assel Correa (surgeon) and Landy Rodriguez ( General practitioner) to Mandera County Referral Hospital is believed to have had communications with conspirators.

In the morning ambush that left one of the police escorts Mr Mutundo Ngala dead, police believe Ibrein had a role.

Ibrein has in the past been linked to a series of alleged abductions, and police drawn from the ATPU wing are looking for leads implicating him.

β€œThe two doctors were escorted and guarded by two police officers – Rahmadhan Barua Kesi and Mutundo Ngala,” Investigating officer Abdishakur Adan said.

Police reports indicate they were questioning Mr Ibrein after finding suspicious phone calls he made moments before the ambush.

A Toyota Probox car is said to have blocked the path of the Hillux the Cuban doctors were travelling in just a few kilometres after they wre picked.

The occupants of the Probox were to alight and open fire on the doctors’ vehicle, killing one police officer on the spot.

They later disappeared into Bulla Hawa region in the company of the two Cuban doctors who had been bundled into the car.

While the investigating officer demanded that Mr Ibrein be detained for more than 20 days pending completion of investigations, the Court only allowed for 15 days.
