Mohamed Salah’s strike against his former employer is the talk of the town which sends his team back to the top of the Premier League but he does not consider it his best of strikes.
For most players, an astonishing long-range effort in a huge game would be their most well-remembered goal ever. Word is rive that the goal might be put among the goals of the season.
But Mohamed Salah says his beauty against Chelsea on Sunday is still a long way behind his number one and may not even make his top two!
The Egyptian considered his 2018 effort against Everton as his all-time favourite Liverpool goal.
It was a strike that saw Salah land the FIFA’s Puskas award for Goal of the Year.
“I will always choose the Everton one,” he told Sky Sports following the 2-0 victory at Anfield when quizzed about where his latest ranks.
“This is my favourite because it’s my first derby. I think I used everything good the strength, the technique and the skills.
“I think I’ll always decide this one was the best. ” Tottenham (the 2-2 draw at Anfield last season) also was nice, especially the moment because I think it was after 90 minutes.
“It was a very important moment and the result was 1-1, so scoring in the last minute was a great feeling.”
His manager may not agree with his striker’s rankings.
Jurgen Klopp says the effort left him speechless as Liverpool returned to the top of the table after being knocked off a few hours before.
“Salah’s goal, it blew me away. I was lost for words,” said the German.
“I saw it really good, it was in my line. I was the first person in the stadium to know it was going in. I said as soon as he hit it, the ball will go in, it was an outstanding finish.
“But the first goal by Sadio Mane was an outstanding goal too. Such incredible team-work. Don’t want to minimise Mo’s goal, a brilliant goal, world-class.
“I loved the first goal too. It was a brilliant goal in all departments.”
Liverpool travel to Porto on Wednesday for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
They are 2-0 ahead an in control but Klopp warned there is still work to do.
