Shazam: Why It’s Not As ‘Electrifying’ As You Would Expect

SPOILER ALERT!

I recently had the not-so-pleasurable experience of watching Shazam at the Junction.

Indeed, the hype around the movie was one to be anticipated.

Considering all the humor, fun, and downright sarcasm I had seen in the trailers.

This, I thought, was going to be a ‘marvel-esque’ experience. You know, the kind where you live the cinema where and wish you could relive the experience again!

Little did I know how wrong I was…

Honestly, the movie was cringe-worthy.

First of all, they sold the idea that it was a kids movie…It isn’t. In fact, it’s got a lot of scares, and I wouldn’t recommend you to watch it with your kids.

The humor feels kinda forced in some areas, where the jokes are more ‘punch-liney’ than something someone would naturally say in a conversation.

The plot-holes were just too many for me to bear…

For example, if the seven deadly sins were initially relased without the help of a host and caused havoc, why did they need a host this time round in Doctor Sivana?

As a Lehman with comics, this is the info that the movie needs to explain.

And the fight sequences felt like they were all over the place, contrary to what I was expecting.

With all honestly, this was a downgrade on DC’s part from the marvelous piece of content that was Aqua Man.

Oh did I mention this earlier? The movie gets pretty dark. So I insist: DO NOT TAKE YOUR 5-10 year old kid to watch this movie!

Unless you wan’t them to wake up in the middle of the night shaking violently and shouting how they’ve just seen the seven deadly sins!

All in all, I’ll give it a 5/10 for great cinematography and a couple of laughs here and there.
