Manchester United’s manager explains why he doesn’t park in the manager’s spot

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is said to have moved in with the rest of his family after being appointed as the manager of Manchester United in a three-year renewable deal.

He does drive himself to the training ground but to the amazement of many, he does not park in the manager’s car spot.

The Man United boss has a space reserved at the club’s Carrington training complex. But Ole won’t use it, instead happily parking with the hordes saying that the managers parking slot belongs to Ferguson even when he’s the current manager.

He told staff: “It just doesn’t feel right parking there. It’s still the gaffer’s (Fergie) place.”

The Norwegian, 46 this month handed a three-year deal as United boss is entitled to the bay used by Ferguson and his successors David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.

Modest Ole, however, is happy parking his grey Volvo XC40 among the rank and file.

A United insider said: “Sir Alex had his own spot. It’s a busy car park and we have been waiting for Ole to claim dibs on the bay after he started driving himself in.

“Ole is in before most of the staff but he is just as unassuming as we remember him.”

Solskjaer is also able to drive a club car from sponsors Chevrolet but has resisted the urge to part with his trusted Volvo.

Since taking over the reins at Old Trafford last December initially as caretaker manager when Mourinho was sacked, Ole has talked about his respect for his former boss Sir Alex.

He admits he has called on him for advice and still refers to him as “gaffer”. He has also revealed how he made notes on Sir Alex’s management style and calls on them for his team talks.

Ironically, given the car park situation, United fans have a new song dedicated to the Norwegian Ole’s At The Wheel.
