Ringtone drops charges against Willy Paul

Gospel Artist Ringtone has dropped charges against Willy Paul following his meeting with DJ MO.

Weeks ago, Ringtone had claimed to have reported his complaints to the high court of Nairobi in regard to Willy Paul’s Hallelujah song which he says is disrespectful to God and the Christian faith.

Despite Ringtone’s withdrawal of the charges, he maintains that he will not shy away from taking legal action in the future if Willy Paul plays with God’s name.

The lawsuit according to Ringtone seeked declaratory orders, an apology from the artist and an order to compel the artist to withdraw the offensive music from the public domain.

As written in the statement shared by Ringtone, the lawsuit also intended to prohibit the said artist and others from mentioning religious terms in a manner that is offensive.

“The secular song is offensive in its use of some terminology against Christians. As a society we the law must balance the right to free expression with other fundamental freedoms such as the right to dignity and choice of religion.” reads statement in part.

It further indicated that uttering some of the song’s content is tantamount to hate speech and incitement.

Ringtone added that Willy Paul is not a Christian and his lyrics and song may be sung with the deliberate intention of wounding the religious feelings of others, particularly Christians.

Following his recent statement, Ringtone starts off on a clean slate but says that this should serve as a final warning to Willy Paul
