Respected Nation Media publication on the spot for ‘Githeri Media’ report

A Nation Media publication under its business newspaper, Business Daily has been blasted by Kenyans online for publishing a half-baked article, posing a threat to Kenya-UK trade ties.

The Business Daily report has been bashed as ‘Githeri Media’ for misleading readers on matters Brexit polls and its impact on Kenya.

In the report, Business Daily stated that: “Kenya economy to lose Sh2 billion in no-deal Brexit”.

This was however picked up by UK Ambassador to Kenya Nic Hailey, who dismissed the report as “entirely inaccurate” advising the paper, “Ask us before printing wrong stuff.”

The fracas aroused an uproar by Kenyans online, some saying they thought the Business Daily is a reputable publication for such a mistake.

In reparation however, the publication did another report on “UK committed to Kenya trade partnership”.

In the article Business Daily termed its previous report as “misleading”.

“An article published in the April 11 edition of the Business Daily titled ‘Kenya economy to lose Sh2 billion in no-deal Brexit’ was misleading and has caused unnecessary concern among businesses and their employees,” the paper stated.

“The British government has made clear our commitment to a smooth transition post Brexit, to ensure continuity in our trading relationship with Kenya,” it added.
