AU High Representative for Infrastructure Raila Odinga today met with and addressed the Africa Integrated High-speed railway Project’s first validation workshop. This workshop was hosted by AUDA-NEPAD and top on its agenda has been how to effectively invest in railways and roads in the continent.
Earlier on during the day, Raila Odinga has hosted Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya, Meles Alem at his Capitol Hill offices and key in topic of discussion during the meeting was how Ethiopia managed to acquire the High-Speed Commuter Train at a low cost in such an effective manner, less expensive than the country’s locomotive SGR train.
The AU High Representative for Infrastructure Raila Odinga will travel to Ethiopia in coming days to conduct a reconnaissance visit to the Addis Ababa light rail. It is the first light rail and rapid transit in eastern and Sub-Saharan Africa and according to sources in today’s meeting, Raila Odinga is taking advantage of his AU office to ensure the same is constructed in Nairobi.
